Training a Left-handed Surgeon

Training a left handed surgeon is not an easy thing if you are right handed. Finding a left-handed trainer is even more difficult, especially one who will impart training the way you want. It is my observation that if the trainee watches your demonstration facing you, he/she does not reproduce your movements or maneuvers exactly, I prefer to have the trainee by my side, watching what I do from the same direction, and repeat my movements, That works quite weII. The other day I had to train a resident doctor who was left-handed. She just could not do what I showed her, and it was beyond me to perform the movements with my left hand. Then I had a new idea. I placed a medium sized mirror along the wall at my hand level, and asked her to watch my hands in the mirror, standing next to me. This worked wonderfully well. She repeated all steps like my image in the mirror, and the result was excellent.
